Latest NewsNew help for Dyslexia (April 05, 2010)NEW HELP FOR DYSLEXIA
A local professional therapist is combining specific techniques to offer a unique new therapy to help dyslexics learn to spell. Research is being undertaken, but initial tests have shown an 80% improvement in accurate long-term recall of spellings using these techniques. Clinical Hypnotherapist Peter Steedman combines multisensory spelling strategies with psychotherapeutic and intuitive techniques, including Kinesiology, NLP, visualisation and EFT. He uses these to retrain the way the brain stores each word, helping to increase spelling retention and speed up recall, and to boost confidence and remove any negative associations connected with spelling, reading or writing. He also teaches techniques clients can use themselves, to help them take back control of what can feel like an insurmountable barrier to learning and self-expression. "It feels exciting to be developing this and seeing just how well it works," says Steedman, who lives in Devizes and runs a clinic in Marlborough. "To see a teenager who’s always struggled with spelling get such consistently good results makes the potential of these combined techniques phenomenal. I want to take this into schools and establish quantifiable ‘before and after’ evidence, because if this gets the results that have been achieved so far, people need to know about it." Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty characterised by difficulties in reading, writing and spelling in varying degrees. Parents can often feel at their wits end, because in spite of the very best help and support, their children still struggle with their schoolwork, leading to loss of confidence and self-esteem. Results have been very positive so far, but further research-based evidence is needed. A pilot study is being undertaken within local schools. If you are interested in participating, or for further information, contact Peter Steedman on 01380 739277 or mobile 07854 216077.
